Freedom Baptist Church

Freedom Baptist Church was formed September 27, 1978, when 55 people joined together and organized the church. Our present membership is 191 members.

Our first service was at Herring Community Building, where we met for a couple of Sundays. Then we moved to Belvoir Community Building and had services there until Mrs. Wilma McLamb gave her 7 room rental house where we met until August 29, 1982.

The Fayetteville Technical Institute Vocational class under the direction of Mr. Hubert Hall constructed our present church building at a great saving for us. They gave free labor and we provided a bus for their transportation from Fayetteville. The original building consisted of the sanctuary, four classrooms, and a kitchen. In February 1984 we voted to build the picnic pavilion and attached recreation rooms, our church's men provided the labor to complete this project. August of 1992 brought about the ground breaking of four additional classrooms, an office, new kitchen facilities, and a fellowship hall. We have since then added a storage room and additional bathroom facilities to the fellowship hall,  paved the parking area, and landscaped the grounds.

Throughout our time as Freedom Baptist Church, God has called the following pastors to serve us; Dana Scrivner from 1978 - 1979, David Adams 1979 - November 1982, Matt Grantham June 1983 - January 1991, Osborne Wade August 1991 - June 1998, Ivan Byrd from 1998 - 2008, Carroll Owenby as full time pastor in 2009-2010, Sam Gore from July 2011- May 2013, and currently serving as interim Dr. Tom Fortner.
